On this web site we would like to introduce you a certification programme for schools, providing with environmental education by a practical approach. Programme helps schools to enter a way of changes for healthier, greener and pro-active school and society.
The programme Zelena skola („Green School“) is a Slovak name of the world-wide Eco-Schools Programme. Its main focus is the education for sustainable development and responsible environmental behavior. The project supports students’ activity, participation in the decision making and raises a new generation with positive attitudes towards the environmental protection. It also offers students to see a non-consumer way of life and spiritual values all around them.
Every Green school follows the standard 7 Eco-School‘s steps. In order to be certified, the school has to fulfill the following criteria:

The organiser of the Green School programme, The Association of Environmental Educational Organizations Spirala, provides consultancy, offers educational lessons and training, and carries out evaluation through the network of regional consultants. Spirala is also publishing practical EE handbooks for teachers as well as the magazine Dalekohlad („Binoculars“).
In the year 2004 Spirala became an associate member of the world largest non-profit and non-governmental organization in environmental education: The Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). FEE was founded in 1981, with the aim to support environmental education internationally and to achieve goals of the sustainable development corresponding with Agenda 21. The FEE Eco-Schools Program was launched with the support of EU in 1994. At the moment there are more than 27 000 schools from 43 countries all around the world participating in the program. In the school year 2009/2010, 125 school are involved in the programme in Slovakia. Some of them are presented on the FEE Donation shop, awaiting support for their school environmental projects.
In the period May 2009 – February 2011 the programme is developed also by a bilateral project cooperation with Eco-Schools Germany.
