On this web site we would like to introduce you a certification programme for schools, providing with environmental education by a practical approach. Programme helps schools to enter a way of changes for healthier, greener and pro-active school and society.

The programme Zelena skola („Green School“) is a Slovak name of the world-wide Eco-Schools Programme. Its main focus is the education for sustainable development and responsible environmental behavior. The project supports students’ activity, participation in the decision making and raises a new generation with positive attitudes towards the environmental protection. It also offers students to see a non-consumer way of life and spiritual values all around them.

Every Green school follows the standard 7 Eco-School‘s steps. In order to be certified, the school has to fulfill the following criteria:

  • All measures taken by school follow the state environmental legislation
  • School accepts evaluation by an external consultant, carried out according to the programme methodology at the end of every school year
  • School makes environmental and democracy awareness and action an intrinsic part of the life and ethos of the school - for students, school staff and their community as well.

A School can develop environmental education in several areas, mainly:

  • Water
  • Waste
  • Energy
  • Transport
  • Greenery
  • Nature conservation and fair treatment of animals
  • Health and usage of ecological materials
  • Organic agriculture, gardening and nutrition
